Idling diesel engines?

Hello there, I wonder if some kindly engineer might spend a few minutes advising about this subject. It has to do with an auxiliary engine in a yacht, namely a 1 cylinder Yanmar. I believe that idling such an engine, for long periods, causes carboning of the injector and is consequently, to be avoided. My wife-who does all the sea-going these days-rubbishes the idea.My mind harks back to days in convoy when, if there happened to be the odd motor-ship plodding...

Hello there, within the last 10 days of so we have had firstly VOLO the ford group say they are ceasing the production of petrol/diesel powered cars, and then Renualt do the same a few days later, saying they will concentrate on electrical powered cars only for 2040.The mind boggles? What will air transport and marine transport do, For a convient fuel easily stored, go nuclear? or 100% natural gas, or back to coal and steam power. As for the defence industry and...

MAN 7L16/24 gensets - any thoughts?

Hello there, I've just taken over a ship with 3 of these engines. They're 'interesting', to say the least. I've worked with many different B&W/Holeby/MAN offerings over the years, but these are going to be a challenge, I suspect. I was surprised to see that the only monitoring on each cylinder is a single thermocouple, and there is no method of checking peak pressures either, so we are operating very much 'in the dark' as far as balancing...

Engine room ventilation and sea spray.

Hi, Before I go off trying to re-invent the wheel, has anyone come up with a solution to sea spray being drawn into the engine room fan trunking and being delivered into the engine room via the fans. I have plenty of space inside the vent trunking before the fans to set up some type of screen/ labyrinth to get the moisture out of the air stream before the fans, any ideas? Please help. I didn't find the right solution from the Internet. References:-

Hello, I could use some recommendations on PC puzzle-type games that I could play together with my girlfriend. Hello, Lots of issues here. For starters there is no way of knowing who is the best. This trophie assignment make it as good as a card game (a gamble if you will) you randomly fight someone with more or less trophies then you if you can get a fight at all. You get more trophies if you fight someone that has more trophies regardless if They have a weaker base.
